VAT number checker
You are only entitled to reclaim VAT on purchases where the supplier is registered. When buying from a business for the first time it’s a sensible precaution to check that they have a genuine VAT registration.
How to use the calculator
Our simple-to-use checker will tell you in an instant whether a UK VAT registration number is in a valid format. You can use it to make a quick check of a supplier’s number if you suspect dishonesty. It cannot determine whether the number has been issued by HMRC.
